A Christmas story

This week and next week is Christmas at HESS. We abandon the regular curriculum to teach the students about Christmas. We have songs and flashcards to help us. Yesterday, being the first day of this special theme, I started teaching the flashcards. Santa Clause, Reindeer, Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer, and so on. I had a ton of time to kill so I thought I would tell them the story about Rudolf. (Remember these are 3-4 year old Taiwanese kids). It had to be really simple. Here is how it went. Santa Claus lives in the North Pole ,which is on top of the earth. (I was informed by several of by students that they didn't live on earth. :) .) Santa had alot of pet reindeer to pull his sleigh. One reindeer had a red nose so the other reindeer liked to make fun of him. BOOOO! Reindeer! Yeah Rudolf. They didn't want to be his friend. (But everyone in my class said they would be his friend.) One day it was foggy so Santa asked Rudolf for some help. Then everybody liked Rudolf and wanted to be his friend. The end.
So today when I pulled out the flashcards for the second time. Everybody was saying, "I don't like reindeer. I like Rudolf. He can be my friend. It was a good lesson to teach the children to not make fun of each other. Now everyone in our class is good friends. :) Yeah for the teacher!

P.S. Greg told me that one time when he was in an airplane and flying above the clouds that he saw Santa Claus and his sliegh. Hmmmmmmm...
